Ola Brisa Gardens - Manzanillo
I've never been to this place in fact I first I heard of it a month or so ago. You can't just drop in but need an appointment. The contact info and cost can be found on their website below. They have a number of videos but they don't cover the subjects well and are secretive about where they are shot. Only a maybe visit for me someday. I do take issue with their claim that it's the foremost botanical garden on Mexico’s Central Pacific because the Botanical Garden just south of Vallarta has really matured and is open to drop-ins.
Eco/Adventure/Nature Tours are by appointment, as otherwise Tommy and Jose may be off somewhere “in the interior” searching for new plant specimens or out in the mountains investigating new areas to explore.
We enjoy sharing, with visitors, all manner of our wonderful locale on singular – or multiple – adventures. Allow us to arrange everything: Your pick-up and delivery, full explanation during the tour(s) of choice(s) from “SITES AND SIGHTS” and – along the way or following – a selection of excellent places to eat. Whatever your preference – wonderful “food of the people in local environs” or in one of the more “gringoized” area eateries – we are familiar with most of them! Should you wish to undertake these culinary experiences on your own feel free to use the restaurant reviews of “TOMMY’S TUMMY” as a guide or let us arrange the experience for you.
In fact, if interested, let us design a several day experience you will never forget – to include native meals and enjoyable treks outside of the urban areas not offered by conventional, commercial tour agencies.
Accordingly, please call or e-mail us in order that all can be fully in order to ensure your experience(s) with us are the best possible.

Police need conservation training
Tourist captures video of police throwing turtle eggs into the sea
It’s turtle season on many Mexican beaches, which brings thousands of sea turtles ashore to lay their eggs — and numerous thieves to steal them. But it’s not often you see someone tossing them away.
A tourist out for a stroll on the beach Las Brisas in Manzanillo, Colima, this week came across a municipal police officer doing just that, and caught the event on film. A second officer on the scene, on becoming aware of the visitor with his camera, ordered him to stop filming.

Hurricane Hunter at Manzanillo airport May 5th
Colima, Col. - To generate awareness of the risks posed by weather events, the Hurricane Hunter aircraft will arrive at the International Airport Playa de Oro Manzanillo (ZLO), from the United States.
The director of the National Water Commission (Conagua) in Colima, José Juan Michel, said the journey that makes the plane of the U.S. Navy shows the public the tools, equipment and instruments they have.
The general public may visit from 12 noon to 6 pm.
He said this is a very important tool from the neighboring United States, to promote the culture of the Civil Protection and to raise public awareness of what we are generating, and perhaps involuntarily, causing climate changes not only in the country but worldwide.

Off Mexico's Pacific coast, Tropical Storm Manuel has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph). It's 150 miles (245 kilometers) off Lazaro Cardenas and 255 miles (410 kilometers) south-southeast of Manzanillo. A tropical storm warning is in effect from Acapulco to Manzanillo.

Tropical Storms Ingrid and Manuel: Extreme Rainfall Threats for Mexico
At the same time that Ingrid is making landfall, Tropical Storm Manuel will be bringing similar rainfall amounts to the other side of Mexico. This morning's 2 am EDT run of the experimental GFDL ensemble model predicted that a large area of Mexico is at high risk of 8+ inches of rain due to the combined effects of Ingrid and Manuel. The greatest danger is on the Pacific side in Oaxaca State, where the combined effects of the circulations of the two storms will pull a flow of very moist air upwards over the mountains, creating torrential rains. The Mexican Weather Service has already received a report of about 8 inches of rain in eastern Mexican state of Oaxaca due to Manuel's rains. The massive rains that will fall in Mexico from this one-two punch of extremely wet tropical storms will cause an extremely dangerous and expensive flood disaster in Mexico.

Mexico Touts Increase in Power Generating Capacity
MEXICO CITY – President Enrique Peña Nieto touted a nearly 2,000-MW increase in the installed capacity of Mexico’s electricity system.
He made his remarks at the Manuel Alvarez Moreno thermoelectric complex, which is located in the Pacific port of Manzanillo and has recently seen its power generating capacity boosted by 1,413 MW.
Now with total installed capacity of 2,754 MW, equivalent to the electrical energy demand of the Mexican capital, that complex is the second largest nationwide, Peña Nieto said.
In addition, he said three new electrical plants began operating Wednesday: an internal combustion facility in Baja California Sur, a combined-cycle natural gas plant in Chihuahua and a geothermal plant in Puebla.

Manzanillo Thermometric is polluting 80% less
The Thermoelectric plant upgrade has been completed in the first stage, so that instead of generating 1,200 MW as it did earlier, today it generates 2,700 MW with a reduction in emissions of 80%.
The Central in its past had four generating units, later six and all used fuel oil. The new combined cycle plants are turbine based using liquefied gas from the regasification.
The project was formed with four modules, the first and the second burn liquefied at 100%, the third module was suitable for conversion to burn gas or fuel oil or a combination of both, the fourth module is pending for conversion and possible upgrade.
It's worth remembering that In 1982, José López Portillo, President of the Republic at the time, opened this plant that delivered an installed generating capacity of 1,200 MW, then the intervention of then-President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado, built a second stage was called Manzanillo Two consisting of two 350 MW generating units, using fuel oil as fuel.
Termo right now is ready to meet the President on Wednesday 14, to commission the re empowerment of this plant which makes it the largest of its kind in all of Latin America.

Property disputes: Buyer beware in Mexico
Perched on a hillside overlooking Manzanillo Bay, Puerto Las Hadas would seem to offer everything a Canadian could want in a getaway: sun, beaches and an ocean view.
But for dozens of Canadians, mostly from Alberta and B.C., who have bought units in the 204-unit complex, Puerto Las Hadas also comes with a property dispute that has put their ownership rights in question and remains unresolved after several years of attempted litigation.
According to several owners and a lawyer in Mexico who is representing some of them in court, a Mexican judge in 2009 cancelled folio numbers – which are used to register property in Mexico – for properties lining Manzanillo Bay, including Puerto Las Hadas. That ruling left owners with access to their waterfront homes but without clear property rights.
